Two Northwest Ohio wrestling powers are headed to Columbus after strong performances at their respective OHSAA State Duals regional tournaments, as Delta and Archbold each punched their ticket to the state duals with championship wins.
Delta Takes Regional Title
Delta earned its state duals berth by navigating a tough regional bracket, opening the day with a 44–31 semifinal win over Port Clinton before closing the tournament with a 39–25 victory over Genoa in the finals.
In the championship dual against Genoa, Delta leaned on bonus points and depth throughout the lineup. Pins from Tyler Barnes (126), Luke Spiess (138), and Grant Cansky (150) provided crucial momentum, while Marcus Nagel (175) and Brady Smith (285) added six points each via forfeit. Delta also picked up decision wins from Gunner Taylor (165), Wyatt Flickinger (190), and Emilio Arroyo (215) to seal the team victory.
The Bulldogs’ ability to capitalize in swing matches and avoid giving up bonus points proved to be the difference as they advanced to the state stage.
Archbold Rolls Through Regional
Archbold was equally impressive on its path to the state duals, beginning with a 64–8 semifinal rout of Mohawk. The Bluestreaks then capped the day with a convincing 52–21 win over Liberty Center in the regional final.
After Liberty Center advanced by defeating Edison 54–24 in its semifinal, Archbold quickly took control of the championship dual. Pins from Lars Soles (126), Trey Weirauch (132), Kayden Wellman (144), Jayden Booth (157), Ashton Stuckey (165), and Hunter Warner (190) fueled the lopsided score. Archbold also received a forfeit win at 120 and added decision victories from Brenden Bosco (106), Layne Miller (150), and Ethan Bowman (175).
Despite Liberty Center picking up wins at 113, 138, 215, and 285, Archbold’s consistent pressure and bonus-point production were too much to overcome.
State Duals Bound
With the wins, Delta and Archbold officially advance to the OHSAA State Duals, representing Northwest Ohio among the state’s elite programs. Both teams showcased balance, depth, and the ability to finish matches—traits that will be critical as they prepare for the next level of competition.
